Matrix New World Engineering, Inc., An Award Winning National Engineering Firm, Hires Director of Western Operations

Florham Park, NJ – Steve Figgins has joined Matrix New World Engineering, Inc. as Director of Western Operations. In this capacity, Mr. Figgins will assume a leadership role in growing the firm's Goodyear, Phoenix, AZ office. In addition, Steve will be opening up a Southern California office located in Irvine, CA.

Steve Figgins is a senior technical manager and geophysicist with over thirty years experience in the conducting, scheduling, and managing environmental and geophysical field surveys in diverse environments as well as determining applicable methods and remediation approaches for different hydrogeological targets. He is involved with managing soil and groundwater remediation programs for site closure.

Mr. Figgins works closely with regulatory agencies to negotiate on the client's behalf to present creative ideas that bolster their position to close their sites or accelerate site closure. Steve has presented to the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) and EPA Region IX, new technical methods for evaluating the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can effectively be desorbed and removed from soils and sediments. He has provided workshops to the RWQCB and the EPA on in-situ remediation methods and their applicability to metal and chlorinated solvent cleanup sites.

In 2006, Steve was appointed by the Head of DTSC to join the Director's External Advisory Board. In 2007, the Director asked Steve to lead the effort to bring workshops on new remediation technologies to the DTSC, RWQCB, and EPA project managers in offices across California. Steve is still active with the Director's External Advisory Board.

In addition to his technical experience, Steve Figgins has served in several operational and business development roles, including office and regional management, as well as market sector and national accounts management for Geraghty & Miller (ARCADIS), Brown & Caldwell, ETIC, and Kennedy/Jenks.

Steve has already started marketing his existing and new clients in the greater Phoenix area as well as some of his existing clients in SoCal. Steve is working with Matrix's headquarter and the Phoenix location to transform the Phoenix office from a project office into a stand alone, fully functioning Matrix office.
